May 15 1809.
The inhabitants of Alnwick and its vicinity were gratified by the completion of an undertaking of hitherto unattempted in that quarter, viz. the delivering of coals at Alnwick, from Shilbottle colliery, by wagons conveyed along a metal rail road.
Hello. Thank you so much for sharing the old pictures of Alnwick - lovely. My husband's family came from Alnwick in the early 1800s, and when I research any tree I love to find old pictures of where the family were living.
Again thanks, Jean.

Wonderful blog! I found it while searching on Yahoo News. Do you have any tips on how to get listed in Yahoo News? I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there! Many thanks.
