The Lion Column, Alnwick
The Foundation Stone of The Lion Column, erected by the Tenantry of the Duke of Northumberland, to perpetuate His Grace’s munificence and numerous acts of kindness was laid on July 1st, 1816.




The Lion Column was built on the plan of His Grace’s architect, David Stephenson of Newcastle.

Old Alnmouth Harbour before the River Aln changed its route into the sea. Church Hill is on the left and Alnmouth Village is in the distance on the right.

Hello. Thank you so much for sharing the old pictures of Alnwick - lovely. My husband's family came from Alnwick in the early 1800s, and when I research any tree I love to find old pictures of where the family were living.
